Ron Champion, Parish Chairman, with pupils of St Edmunds School whose artwork was used on the Laverstock Downs board.
During the latter months of 2012, TCV (The Conservation Volunteers) undertook a special project with Young Carers from around Wiltshire entitled ‘Nature Detectives’.
The aim of the project was to encourage the young people out into nature to have fun and learn about wildlife, habitats and their many occupants!
Participants from the Salisbury & surrounding area spent 6 days over 3 months exploring the River Bourne Community Farm and designing and creating a mini trail around the farm yard area with interactive activities to explore. They took plaster casts of the farm animal’s footprints, made name plates for some of the animals, created a map and made two interactive boards all of which will be on display throughout the summer 2013 to enhance the experience of visitors.
The project ended with a celebration day attended by over 80 carers and their families from all over Wiltshire, where the young carers could show off their work and share their experiences with their families. They enjoyed creative workshops, along with a tour of the farm trail. A highlight of the day was a special appearance from the Mayor of Salisbury who joined them for a BBQ lunch with fresh farm sausages!
